The Niger State Government has announced a raft of incentives aimed at attracting more investors and accelerating socio-economic development in line with its “New Niger Agenda.”
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed this during the inauguration of the Salid Shea Butter Processing Plant in Kudu, Mokwa Local Government Area.
He said his administration is prepared to offer free land and assist in cultivating raw materials for investors willing to venture into agribusiness in the state. According to him, tax reliefs and other incentives will also be provided to create jobs, empower women, and boost the state’s economic growth.
Commissioner for Investment and Trade, Aminu Takuma, described the Shea plant as a milestone in Niger’s agricultural and industrial transformation. He said the inauguration demonstrates that government policies can succeed when the private sector is fully engaged.
Takuma noted that the ministry’s mandate of creating an enabling environment for business has yielded positive results through the governor’s policies, including tax incentives, streamlined regulations, and infrastructure development.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, hailed the project as a “life changer” for benefiting communities. He urged residents to safeguard the facility to ensure its sustainability.
Executive Director of Salid Shea Butter Processing Plant, Daniel Alabi, said the initiative was driven by the desire to harness Niger’s abundant agricultural potential, empower local communities, and contribute to national economic growth.
The plant is estimated to produce 100 metric tons of shea butter daily and is projected to reach an annual output of 30,000 metric tons.
