Who Will Rescue Jushi Ward from Neglect? - By Ammar M. Rajab

Every day, thousands of residents rely on this critical road. At the break of dawn, farmers begin transporting their produce from the area to various markets — a lifeline for local commerce.

This short but vital route links Unguwar Gwado, Unguwar Kudu, and Jushin Waje — all within Jushi Ward of Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Yet, the entire stretch is less than 2 kilometers. Two years ago, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development constructed a mere 1 kilometer of it. By last year, that portion had already crumbled due to substandard work, leaving the road in a deplorable state once again.

Jushi Ward boasts 35 polling units and more than 167,000 registered voters — a decisive voting bloc by any political measure. Still, the ward does not have a single kilometer of motorable road.

What makes this more troubling is that Jushi Ward is not politically underrepresented. It has a member in the Kaduna State House of Assembly and a representative in the Federal House of Representatives. The only seat it does not hold is that of senator.

In fact, between 2019 and 2023, the senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District (Zone 1) hailed from Jushi Ward itself. Yet, throughout his tenure, not a single functional road was delivered to the community.

This is not mere oversight — it is a glaring case of political abandonment. The question remains: who will break the cycle of neglect and deliver the infrastructure that Jushi Ward’s people both need and deserve?
