The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar, has extended heartfelt condolences to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, following the death of his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.
Mama Lydia passed away a few days ago, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the political and religious spectrum.
In a personally signed statement, Senator Buba described the loss as "painful and deeply shocking."
“On behalf of myself, my family, associates, and the entire people of Bauchi South Senatorial District, I write to commiserate with you over the sad loss of our mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda," the statement read.
"Given who she was, it is no exaggeration to say that Mama held an immeasurable place in your life. She also played a unique and impactful role in our society—one that became even more visible following your emergence as the National Chairman of our great party.”
The Senator, who also paid a condolence visit to Professor Yilwatda on Monday, said he had known the Yilwatda family for years and could attest to the remarkable influence both Mama Lydia and her late husband, Reverend Thoma Goshewe Yilwatda, had in shaping the APC chairman’s character and leadership.
“I can only imagine how deep and irreparable this loss must be—not just for you and your family, but also for the Church, our party, and the nation,” he said.
Senator Buba urged Professor Yilwatda and his family to take solace in Mama Lydia’s enduring legacy, which he described as “impactful and fulfilling.” He encouraged them to draw strength and inspiration from the values she lived by.
“This is the best way to sustain the great legacy of the Yilwatda family and inspire younger generations to follow such noble examples,” he added.
The Senator concluded by praying for divine strength and comfort for the bereaved family:
“May the Almighty God grant you strength, fortitude, and peace during this difficult time. Once again, Mr. Chairman, please accept our deepest condolences and assurances of highest regard.”
