According to a statement issued by the Agency's Assistant Director of Press, Nwamaka Ejiofor, a team from the NESREA Kaduna State Field Office, led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Hena Dangari Emmanuel, visited the affected area to commence preliminary investigations.
The statement said the investigation team met with the Police Commander in Jere, ACP Sani Zubairu, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander for the area, and the community leader to gather information on the incident.
Preliminary findings indicate that the spill occurred after a heavy-duty truck was involved in an accident, resulting in the discharge of its contents onto the highway.
NESREA said it has commenced the collection of relevant information from security agencies, local authorities, and residents to determine the nature and source of the substance.
The Agency also collected samples of the white foamy substance, as well as soil and water from a nearby stream, for laboratory analysis to ascertain whether the material poses any environmental or public health risks.
While the investigation is ongoing, NESREA has advised members of the public to avoid contact with the foamy substance, nearby water sources, and the surrounding soil until the laboratory analysis is concluded and the area is declared safe.
The Agency said the precautionary measure is necessary to prevent possible exposure to hazardous substances and assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
