The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) has formally inducted 38 graduates of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, into the veterinary profession at a colorful ceremony held on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the CBN Centre for Economics and Finance, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, congratulated the new veterinary doctors for reaching this milestone after years of rigorous academic work and perseverance. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim.
Prof. Ahmed commended the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for its continuous contributions to the advancement of the university and urged the inductees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their practice. He further encouraged them to give back to their alma mater—whether in cash or kind—and never to forget the institution that shaped them.
He also extended his congratulations to the parents, guardians, and lecturers who supported the inductees throughout their academic journey, wishing them continued success in their future endeavors.
The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Junaidu Kabir, in his address, expressed gratitude to the university management for their unwavering support, which he said contributed significantly to the faculty's accomplishments during his tenure. He thanked the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Prof. Mathew Adamu, and the Registrar, Dr. Oladotun E. Fadipe, for their continued partnership and support.
Prof. Kabir commended the inductees for their dedication and acknowledged the sacrifices made by their parents. He urged the new veterinary doctors to remain connected to the faculty and contribute to its growth and legacy.
The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Samuel Ankali, former Special Assistant to the late President Muhammadu Buhari on Disabilities, who served as the Guest Speaker. Dr. Ankali encouraged the graduates to pursue excellence in their careers and to explore diverse opportunities, emphasizing the importance of veterinary professionals participating in all sectors of national development.
The oath of professional practice was administered by the Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Dr. Oladotun E. Fadipe.
The highlight of the ceremony included the presentation of awards to distinguished guests and outstanding graduates. Dr. Hamza Isa emerged as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.18, followed by Dr. Rofiat Omotayo Olafimihan with a CGPA of 4.04.
