The Jigawa State Government has formalised a strategic partnership with CornTech Seeds Private Limited, an Indian agro-tech company, to enhance agricultural productivity through the adoption of advanced hybrid seed technology.
Governor Umar Namadi received the company’s high-level delegation, led by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Venkateswarlu Yaganti, at the Government House in Dutse, where both parties signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to solidify the alliance.
The agreement follows an earlier agricultural investment tour by a Jigawa delegation to India in May, during which areas of mutual interest were identified and prioritised for collaboration.
Under the terms of the MoC, CornTech will provide hybrid seed varieties for maize, rice, wheat, and vegetables, conduct multi-location trials across the state, and collaborate with local institutions on research to develop climate-resilient seed strains suited to Jigawa’s agro-ecological zones.
The partnership also includes farmer and extension worker training, post-harvest management support, and a market-entry facilitation plan for CornTech through its Nigerian partner, Feredo Agro & Bio Farms Ltd.
Governor Namadi hailed the partnership as a significant milestone in his administration’s drive to transform agriculture across the state.
“This collaboration is a win-win. Jigawa has the land, the people, and the market. What we need now is modern technology — and CornTech brings the expertise to the table,” the Governor said.
On his part, Mr. Yaganti expressed confidence in Jigawa’s potential to emulate India’s agricultural success story.
“The agricultural transformation we saw in India can be replicated in Jigawa much faster with the support of modern communication and information technologies,” he stated.
The MoC was signed on behalf of Jigawa State by Dr. Saifullahi Umar, Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency (JATA), and is set to run for an initial term of three years, renewable by mutual agreement.
The partnership is expected to significantly boost crop yields, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of thousands of farmers across Jigawa. It aligns with Governor Namadi’s 12-Point Agenda for agricultural transformation and sustainable development.
