Niger State Governor, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” Mohammed Umaru Bago, has congratulated Nigerians as the country marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, to commemorate the milestone—celebrated under the theme "All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation"—Governor Bago praised the nation’s progress over the years and called for renewed patriotism and unity among citizens.
He described Nigeria’s 65 years of independence as a significant milestone, especially as a culturally diverse nation, saying it reflects the collective strength, resilience, and determination of its people.
“Nigeria is blessed with abundant human, natural, and capital resources,” Bago said. “As we celebrate this anniversary, we must reflect on how far we’ve come and renew our commitment to building a greater nation.”
While acknowledging the challenges facing the country, the governor emphasized that ongoing efforts by all levels of government to reform institutions and harness Nigeria’s full potential are signs of hope.
He paid tribute to the country’s founding fathers and other patriots whose sacrifices have helped preserve national unity and stability.
“The task of nation-building is a collective one,” Bago stated. “It is time for all Nigerians to renew their commitment to patriotism, selflessness, and national progress.”
He called on citizens to continue praying for visionary and purposeful leaders across all levels of government.
Governor Bago also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth and women empowerment.
He reassured Niger State residents of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the New Niger Agenda, promising to unlock new economic opportunities and enhance safety and well-being across the state.
“As we celebrate Nigeria at 65, I urge all citizens to see our diversity as a source of strength and make a fresh commitment to unity, patriotism, and prayer. With collective effort and hope, a better Nigeria is possible,” the governor added.
