The Bauchi State House of Assembly has deliberated on a motion seeking the upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centres in Bara and Beni communities of Kirfi local government area into fully functional cottage or general hospitals.
The motion, sponsored by Barrister Habibu Umar, member representing Kirfi Constituency, was discussed during yesterday's plenary presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman.
It was seconded by Lawal Dauda of Sade Constituency, highlighting the urgent need for improved healthcare in the area.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Habibu Umar noted that healthcare is a fundamental responsibility of the government, stressing that the strength of any society depends on the well-being of its people.
He explained that Bara, which hosts a large share of Kirfi's population, relies on a single overstretched primary healthcare facility, while Beni remains underserved in terms of medical access.
He urged the state government, through the Ministry of Health, to upgrade the two centres with modern infrastructure, qualified personnel, and necessary medical equipment.
He further called on the House Committee on Health to collaborate with the Ministry and other stakeholders to carry out an assessment visit and make recommendations.
In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Dr. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, commended Barr. Umar for the initiative and expressed confidence that the Ministry of Health would act appropriately.
Similarly, the chairman of the health committee, Lawal Dauda, described the motion as timely and deserving, stressing the need for swift legislative action to improve healthcare access for Kirfi residents.
