The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, has called on Nigerians to remain united and fervently pray for leaders at all levels, stressing that patriotism, vigilance, and optimism are vital to the nation’s progress.

In his goodwill message to mark Nigeria's 65th Independence Anniversary, issued by his media aide Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the Speaker said the country has recorded remarkable transformations since independence, but greater efforts are still needed to strengthen security and the economy to attract investment.

"Our beloved Nigeria has been a shining light in Africa, inspiring many nations. While celebrating 65 years of independence, we must acknowledge the progress made but also recognise the urgent need for more work on security and the economy.

"Citizens must desist from unethical conduct and remain good ambassadors of their families, communities, and states," he said.

Sulaiman commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his transformational leadership, impactful projects, and contributions toward unity and national development, describing him as "a voice of the voiceless' whose style should be emulated by other leaders.

He also emphasised that Independence Day is not only a time for celebration but also an opportunity to honour Nigeria's heroes who sacrificed physically, verbally, and intellectually for the nation's freedom.

"Our differences are destined by God. We must therefore embrace tolerance and cooperation to ensure peaceful coexistence and economic prosperity," he noted.

The Speaker urged Nigerians to pool their ideas and resources to uplift living standards, stressing that prioritising health, education, agriculture, security, and infrastructure remains key to making the country conducive for both citizens and foreigners.

He prayed for the nation to overcome its challenges and for leaders to surpass expectations in delivering development that improves lives across all regions.
