Despite opposition from the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has approved the reappointment of Prof. Asabe Sadiya Mohammed for a second term as Provost of the Aminu Saleh College of Education (ASCOE), Azare.

The decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday with the Governor, the Commissioner for Higher Education, the College governing council chairman and members, the Provost, leadership of academic and non-academic staff unions, the Student Union President, and the Chairman Committee on education of the state House of Assembly.

The meeting provided a platform for all parties to present their concerns and grievances, with Governor Bala emphasising the importance of unity and collaboration for the progress of the institution.

Recall that during house plenary on Thursday, the chairman of the House Committee on petition, Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf Itas, presented a report recommending against Prof. Asabe's reappointment, citing several complaints against her leadership.

Lawmakers had argued that the decision was in the best interest of accountability and stability at the College.

However, Governor Bala Mohammed intervened, urging all stakeholders to put the institution’s development above personal differences.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to strengthening tertiary education across the state.

Speaking with Journalists shortly after her reappointment, Prof. Asabe Sadiya Mohammed expressed her gratitude to the Governor and all those who supported her.

"On behalf of my family and well-wishers, I wish to extend my sincere and profound gratitude to Allah (SWA) for my reappointment as the Provost of the College for a second term," she said.

"I would like to express my special appreciation to His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for considering me worthy of reappointment."

"I appreciate the support and efforts of our workaholic Commissioner of Higher Education and Regional Integration, Dr. Lydia Tsammani; the Speaker and Members of Bauchi State Assembly; Commissioners; Political Advisers; Royal Fathers; and my able Council Members. Your input towards my reappointment is invaluable, and I thank you all," she added.

Professor Asabe noted that the recent challenges had strengthened her resolve to deliver on the College's goals and objectives.

She further said, "This reappointment is a testament to the collective effort and dedication of the College community. Together, we achieved significant milestones during my first term, and I look forward to building on that success."

Asabe assured that her administration would continue to focus on academic excellence, infrastructural development, and institutional stability.

"I am excited about what the future holds and ready to continue leading the College forward. May Almighty Allah grant us wisdom, strength, and courage to discharge our duties diligently and in accordance with the law," she concluded.
