Three young Nigerian pupils have authored inspiring books that address critical social issues affecting children and society, demonstrating creativity, empathy, and awareness at an early age. The budding writers—Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar, Fatima Muhammad Gumel, and Munawwarah Abubakar—are all primary school pupils. Their books promote positive values and social consciousness among children in Nigeria.
Titled Tricky Pills, Hurtful Deeds, and Lies and the Dire Consequences: Pupils' Guide, the books explore key themes such as drug abuse prevention, empathy, kindness, and honesty.
The initiative was made public in a press release issued on Monday by Ambassador Sani Muhammad Sani, who is promoting the books. He noted that the young authors developed their stories under the mentorship of Mrs. Khadija Raji, a certified Child Development Practitioner and Assessor, who guided them through research using credible sources.
The project, titled "Empowering Young Voices Through Writing," is designed to foster creativity, literacy, and value-based education through storytelling and guided authorship. It also aims to promote peer learning and raise awareness about critical social issues such as drug abuse, honesty, and compassion.
Commenting on the initiative, Mrs. Raji said: “We are thrilled to see these young authors showcase their talents and share their messages with the world. Their books are not only entertaining but also educational. We believe they will inspire other children to express themselves positively through writing.”
Ambassador Sani added that the books will be officially launched at an event bringing together stakeholders in education, child development, and social welfare. The launch will also feature school outreach activities, literacy campaigns, and the unveiling of an online platform hosting the books and related learning materials. He said, “These young authors are the future leaders of our society, and we are committed to supporting them in every possible way. Their work is a testament to the power of young people to drive positive change in their communities.”
The Empowering Young Voices Through Writing initiative underscores the potential of Nigerian children when provided with platforms to think, write, and lead with purpose. Muhammad Hamisu Abubakar, a Primary Two pupil, authored Tricky Pills, a book on drug abuse prevention. Fatima Muhammad Gumel, in Primary Four, wrote Hurtful Deeds, a story promoting empathy and kindness. Munawwarah Abubakar, also in Primary Four, is the author of Lies and the Dire Consequences: Pupils’ Guide, a book that emphasizes honesty and integrity.
These young writers stand as shining examples of creativity, moral awareness, and the power of storytelling to shape the minds of future generations.
