The First Lady of Zamfara State, Her Excellency Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, reaffirming her commitment to promoting quality education, empowerment, and protection of the girl child in the state.
In a statement signed by Rabi Yusuf, Press Secretary, Office of the First Lady, Zamfara State Government, the celebration for this year is themed “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis.”
Her Excellency explained that the theme serves as a reminder that girls are not merely victims of challenges but are also leaders and changemakers in their homes, schools, and communities. She noted that even in times of conflict, poverty, and hardship, girls continue to demonstrate strength, courage, and leadership — proving that their voices are vital to building peace and development.
In her advocacy message, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal stated that “every great nation begins with empowered girls — girls who are taught to believe in their worth, pursue their purpose, and lead with courage.” She emphasized that supporting girls on the frontlines of crisis involves ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, and leadership opportunities, so they can rebuild and shape better societies.
She further stressed that the girl child deserves quality education, equal opportunity, and representation — not as a privilege, but as a fundamental right. She expressed optimism that with continued support, girls’ voices will be heard, and their dreams will be realized.
The First Lady called for sustained efforts to open up more opportunities for girls in business, entrepreneurship, leadership, politics, ICT, science, and technology, noting that “when we invest in the girl child, we invest in progress, peace, and prosperity.”
She encouraged girls across Zamfara State and beyond to take pride in who they are and to believe in their ability to create positive change. She urged them to keep dreaming, learning, and striving to become their best selves, reminding them that “the world is waiting for their light to shine.”
