Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called for strict measures against informants who collaborate with bandits. The governor made the call when he led a state delegation to commiserate with the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, at his palace in New Bussa over the recent kidnapping incident.

He noted that informants play a major role in enabling terrorist attacks and stressed that taking tougher action against them would significantly help in curbing insecurity across the state. The farmer governor explained that security agencies, in collaboration with the state government, are intensifying efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the schoolchildren kidnapped from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area.

Governor Bago also emphasised the importance of community cooperation with security agencies, urging residents to provide credible information that could support the rescue operation. He cautioned the public against religious bigotry and intolerance, warning that such behaviour could fuel division and undermine peace.

Responding, the Emir of Borgu expressed appreciation for the visit and described Governor Bago as a passionate and exemplary leader who has demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of his people. The Emir lamented how bandits have taken over parts of the Borgu forest and called on both state and federal authorities to reclaim and secure the area.

Minister of State for Agriculture, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift response to the incident and expressed confidence that the kidnapped children would be rescued and that banditry would eventually be brought to an end.
