By Abdullah Idris

What is your reaction to the recent completion of the perimeter fencing of the college?

Provost: When I came in, there were many challenges in the school related to stealing due to the lack of fencing. But now, with the support of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration, all our problems in this regard have been resolved effectively and efficiently.

What is your take on the recent appointment of the new commissioner?

Provost:  We wish her well, and we will give her all the necessary support, one hundred percent.

Do you have any hitches with the approval of courses?

Provost: Absolutely not, because Governor Bala Mohammed has been supporting us with funds for course approval. And just recently, the number of approved courses has equally been increased.

What can you say about the change in nomenclature of the school?

Provost: Well, it’s a welcome idea to gain more recognition from TETFund, and the number of courses should also be increased in this regard. A committee was set up by the government to come up with solid modalities and recommendations toward ensuring successful implementation of this nomenclature.

Do you have any pressing challenges in the college?

Provost: Challenges are part of life, but our pressing challenge for now is that we are appealing to the government to build more structures in the college and employ more hands to fast-track development in the best interest of the state and academic excellence. And we are enjoying one hundred percent support from Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.

How cordial is your relationship with your staff and students?

Provost: It is always very cordial. We are working together in harmony, respect, and understanding as a family toward improving the standard of education.

What do you want to be remembered for?

Provost: Good legacies that will stand the test of time in the future.

As a professional in agriculture, how do you view the Federal Government’s decision to separate the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, unlike before?

Provost: Without food security, there will be problems, and local production should be encouraged at all levels to attain food sufficiency. It is not about separating the ministry; it is about commitment and the implementation of good policies from the Federal Government. The same applies to state governments in Nigeria.

Some countries do not have such a separation of ministries, yet they are still going very far in terms of agricultural development initiatives and livestock production.

What we urgently need as a country is for the government to provide effective and sustainable policies, professional hands, and the best acceptable guidelines for boosting agricultural production in Nigeria.
