The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, is currently in its custody.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the anti-graft agency stated that El-Rufai was in its custody as of the close of work on the same day in connection with ongoing investigations.
The statement, signed by the ICPC’s Head of Media and Public
Communications/Spokesperson, Mr. J. Okor Odey, did not disclose the specific nature of the investigation or the allegations involved.
“El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations,” the statement read.
The Commission did not provide further details regarding the duration of his detention or whether formal charges have been filed.
El-Rufai served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the former governor or his representatives.
