The Allied Peoples Movement has officially unveiled the names of its leadership members in Niger State as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a media briefing, the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed Kontagora, said the APM is not a new political party, despite its growing emergence and restructuring efforts in Niger State.
According to him, the party has so far established its leadership structure in 18 local government areas, while arrangements are ongoing to finalise leadership appointments in the remaining local governments.
The chairman disclosed that several individuals had already indicated interest in contesting various political offices under the platform of the party, adding that this had encouraged the party to commence preparations for its primary elections in line with the party’s constitution.
He stated that the current situation in the country requires leaders with honesty, integrity, courage, and commitment to national development, stressing that the party is determined to present credible candidates for elective positions.
Aliyu Kontagora also claimed that notable political figures, including the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, and the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, had shown interest in the party.
According to him, the APM, symbolised by cassava, is focused on restoring the dignity of agriculture, livestock production, business, and the nation’s economic system in order to tackle poverty, unemployment, and strengthen national unity.
The chairman called on politicians, particularly in Niger State, to join what he described as the “new APM movement” with the slogan “Nigeria First,” aimed at promoting patriotic leadership and fighting corruption.
He also urged Nigerians, especially those without Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), as well as displaced citizens living outside their communities, to participate actively in the democratic process by supporting credible candidates during elections.
Aliyu Mohammed Kontagora assured party members and supporters that the APM would ensure fairness and transparency during its forthcoming primary elections.
He noted that many of the crises affecting political parties in Nigeria were largely caused by injustice and irregularities during party primaries, adding that the APM would avoid such practices by ensuring internal democracy and fairness for all aspirants.
