The management and students of Mewar International University, Masaka, Nasarawa State, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, honoured the Proprietor and Pro-Chancellor of the university, Engr. Abubakar Sani Bello, with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his leadership, guidance and unwavering institutional support.

The award was presented on the third day of the 4th edition of the university’s Cultural Week, during a colourful cultural presentation featuring students from various ethnic nationalities represented on campus.

The Dean, Student Affairs, who presented the award on behalf of the university community, described the honour as a mark of appreciation for the pivotal role played by the Proprietor and Pro-Chancellor in ensuring the success of the 2026 Cultural Week.

The citation on the award read: “In appreciation of your exceptional guidance, institutional support, and vital role in the success of the 2026 Cultural Week. Thank you for your steadfast commitment to the MIU community.”

The Award

The ceremony was witnessed by members of the university’s top management, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, principal officers, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as a large gathering of students who applauded the gesture.

The award presentation formed part of the cultural activities that have defined the 4th edition of MIU’s Cultural Week, which has featured traditional dances, indigenous music, cultural displays and inter-tribal presentations aimed at promoting unity and cultural understanding among students.

Students at the event described the recognition as a symbolic appreciation of leadership that prioritises cultural identity, student engagement and inclusive campus life.

Activities marking the Cultural Week are expected to climax with the university’s matriculation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the MIU reception hall.
