Madrasatul Nuril-Huda in Samaru, Zaria, has celebrated its steady growth and held its 30th graduation ceremony, marking decades of Islamic and community-based education.
The school, established in 1982, began with a single class in the garage of the late Alhaji Abdulmumin Tanko, with one teacher, Malam Abubakar Siddeeq Musa, and only seven students.
It was founded under the leadership of the late Chief Imam of Samaru, Sheikh Muhammadu Tela, alongside Sheikh Umar Ahmad. The institution also acknowledged the contributions of notable individuals, including Malam Abubakar Mai Tafseeri of Anguwan Na’ibi, Alhaji Maigoro and Malam Isa Na’ibi, among others, for their roles in the establishment and development of the school.
In 1987, the late Alhaji Wada Musa provided the school with four classrooms on loan, which were later formally handed over to the institution by his heirs. He also donated a plot of land in New Extension, which was sold in 2006 to acquire another plot closer to the school.
Currently, the school has six classrooms and a two-storey building housing additional classrooms and a library.
The school expressed appreciation to the Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kaduna State and Chairman of Sabon-Gari Local Government, Hon. (Sheikh) Jamilu Abubakar Albani, for his support, including the donation of roofing materials.
Appreciation was also extended to former Local Government Chairman, Hon. Muhammad Usman; Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sadiq (Kogunan Safana); and other community members for their various contributions to the institution.
The school further acknowledged the Sabon-Gari Local Government Education Authority for permitting the use of classrooms at L.E.A Primary School, Lemu, for teaching activities.
Despite the progress recorded, the institution appealed to the Muslim community for additional support to complete its two-storey building project, which is currently at the final plastering stage.
On May 3, the school successfully conducted its 30th graduation ceremony, during which 19 male and 27 female students graduated.
Among the distinguished guests at the event were Abdullahi Dangi, popularly known as Magajin Garin Nupe, and Nazir Dahiru Usman, who delivered lectures emphasising unity and peaceful coexistence among Muslims and non-Muslims.
Parents and community members expressed joy and solidarity throughout the occasion.
The Head of the school, Malam Muhammad Ghali Musa, also offered condolences to the family and associates of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who was usually a special guest at such events. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest for the deceased.
The event ended peacefully and successfully.
