A broad coalition of farmers from across the 25 local government areas of Niger State has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, urging him to seek re-election in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Presenting the forms to the governor, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (Niger State Chapter), Muhammad Manko Abubakar, said the gesture reflected a unanimous decision by farmers who have benefited directly from the administration’s agricultural policies and interventions.

He noted that since assuming office, Governor Bago has driven significant transformation in the agricultural sector, earning the confidence and support of farmers across the state. According to him, with an estimated 2.7 million farmers currently active in Niger State, the farming community stands firmly behind the governor and is ready to mobilise for his re-election.

Echoing this position, the association’s State Vice Chairman, Usman Saba, expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership, noting that his achievements have rekindled hope in the sector. He added that farmers remain optimistic that a second term would consolidate existing gains and further revitalise agriculture in the state.

In recognition of his contributions, the farmers conferred on Governor Bago the honorary title of “Gatan Manoman Niger State,” symbolising his strong ties with the farming community.

Responding, Governor Bago expressed appreciation for the show of confidence, describing farmers as critical stakeholders in the state’s economy and in ensuring food security across Nigeria and the wider West African region. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting agricultural growth despite prevailing challenges.

The governor also disclosed plans to intensify support for farmers ahead of the next planting season through the distribution of tractors, combined harvesters, hand tillers and fertilisers, aimed at boosting productivity and mechanisation.

He further revealed an ambitious target to increase the number of farmers in the state from 2.7 million to 4.3 million by 2028, positioning Niger State as a leading agricultural hub in Nigeria.

The development signals growing grassroots support for the governor, particularly among rural producers, as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle.
