The Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, has reaffirmed the Niger State Government’s commitment to supporting the National Examinations Council (NECO) in its efforts to enhance educational standards and improve the examination process for pre-university students in Nigeria.

He made this known during the celebration marking the 25th anniversary of the National Examinations Council (NECO).
Representing the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, at the grand celebration held at the Abuja International Conference Centre on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Comrade Yakubu Garba said the occasion marked twenty-five years of excellence, dedication, and remarkable contributions by NECO towards the growth and advancement of secondary education in Nigeria.

The event brought together eminent personalities and stakeholders in the education sector from across the country, who acknowledged the support of the Niger State Government in providing an enabling environment and conducive atmosphere for NECO to thrive as one of the nation’s foremost examination bodies.
Delivering the Governor’s message, Comrade Yakubu Garba commended the management and staff of NECO for their unwavering commitment to maintaining educational standards and promoting academic excellence nationwide.

He noted that the examination body has continued to distinguish itself as one of Nigeria’s most important educational institutions, renowned for credibility and reliability in its examination processes.
The Deputy Governor also praised the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, for his visionary leadership and remarkable reforms aimed at repositioning the Council for greater efficiency, innovation, and credibility.

He added that NECO has continued to play a critical role in supporting educational development in Niger State and across the federation.

Stressing that quality education remains a vital instrument for national growth, human capital development, and sustainable progress, the Niger State Government reaffirmed its commitment under the leadership of Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to continue supporting policies and initiatives that will improve access to quality education for all citizens.

Comrade Yakubu Garba assured the management and staff of NECO of the continued support and cooperation of the Niger State Government, as host of the Council’s headquarters, towards ensuring the sustainability and stability of education in Nigeria.

The celebration was attended by representatives from the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria, the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, former Registrars of NECO, senior government officials, education stakeholders, traditional rulers, and other distinguished guests.
