The African Democratic Congress (ADC), popularly identified by its handshake symbol, has conducted its state congress and elected new leaders in Niger State.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Electoral and Swearing-in Committee, Barrister Ibrahim Alhaji Jibrin Wuya, said elections for local government and district leaders were conducted on Thursday, during which some changes were made following the exit of certain officials.
He explained that the state congress and affirmation of the party’s state leadership took place on Friday at the party’s state secretariat in Minna, where the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Musa Hassan, was returned unopposed for a second term.

Following the congress, the newly elected officials were immediately sworn in by Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin Wuya, alongside his deputy, Comrade M.K. Garba Kwabo, and other members of the committee.
Hon. Hussaini Ayawa Kontagora emerged as the new State Youth Leader of the party. In his remarks, he called on women and youths to continue supporting the ADC in Niger State in order to ensure quality representation and leadership.
According to him, women and youths remain the backbone of political change in Nigeria and should support credible aspirants during the party’s forthcoming primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned against allowing financial inducement to influence political decisions, stressing that Nigerians must learn from the current challenges facing the country.

“If we abandon merit and competence because of money or temporary gains during elections without considering our future, we will continue to suffer. We must avoid repeating past mistakes,” he said.
Hon. Hussaini also urged the newly inaugurated leaders to fear God in the discharge of their duties and ensure fairness and transparency in the selection of candidates for political offices.

In his address, the State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Musa Hassan, advised party members aspiring for political offices to remain patient until the party concludes its national congress.

He urged both old and newly elected leaders to see their positions as responsibilities entrusted to them by God and not opportunities for personal gain.
According to him, Nigeria is currently facing severe economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty, adding that patriotic Nigerians must work together to rescue the country from what he described as “capitalist exploitation.”

“The capitalists have continued to damage the country, and the situation is worsening daily. It is our collective responsibility to protect the integrity of this nation and remain vigilant against those attempting to sabotage the party and its candidates,” he stated.

Alhaji Musa Hassan added that the ADC remains a peaceful political party symbolized by a handshake, stressing that the party does not promote violence.
He further maintained that recent court judgments had affirmed the legitimacy of the party’s leadership, describing those parading themselves as alternative leaders outside the recognized structure as intruders attempting to undermine democracy.

He explained that the local government and district congresses were conducted in line with the party’s constitution under the supervision of the electoral committee led by Barrister Ibrahim Jibrin Wuya, while the state congress was successfully held on Friday.

The ADC chairman appealed to party members to remain steadfast and patient, noting that political success requires perseverance, unity, and commitment to credible leadership.

He expressed confidence that if the party conducts transparent primaries and presents credible candidates, it stands a strong chance of success in the 2027 general elections.

The congress and swearing-in ceremony took place at the ADC State Secretariat located in the 3 Arm Zone, Eastern Bye Pass, Maitumbi, Minna, Niger State.
The event was attended by security personnel, party stakeholders, and observers from other opposition parties, and was conducted peacefully without any reported disturbance or security threat.
