Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former General Manager of Radio Niger, Minna, and former Chairman of the Board of the Niger State Media Corporation, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, describing him as one of the finest broadcasters of his generation whose contributions left an indelible mark on the media industry.
In a condolence message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor extended his heartfelt sympathies to the immediate family of the deceased, the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and the entire broadcasting community.
Governor Bago described the late Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed as an accomplished broadcaster and media administrator who made remarkable contributions to the growth and development of broadcasting in Niger State, Northern Nigeria, and the country at large.
He recalled the selfless sacrifices, dedication, and professional excellence demonstrated by the deceased throughout his illustrious career, noting that his wealth of experience and commitment to service earned him respect and admiration across the media landscape.
According to the Governor, the broadcasting community has lost “an experienced broadcaster who retired from active service but never retired from contributing to the advancement of the profession.”
He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family, friends, colleagues, and all those affected the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The late Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed served as General Manager of Radio Niger, Minna, between 1976 and 1980. He began his broadcasting career as an announcer and newscaster with the then Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria (BCNN), before rising through the ranks to become a producer of current affairs programmes at Radio Television Kaduna.
He later served as News Correspondent for the defunct North-Western State and subsequently became Controller of Programmes at Radio Nigeria Kaduna. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
During his distinguished career, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed received several honours, including the Best Radio Commentator Award from FRCN Kaduna and the Niger State Veteran Merit Award, among other recognitions.
His death marks the end of an era in Nigerian broadcasting, particularly in Niger State, where his legacy of professionalism, mentorship, and dedication to public service is expected to continue inspiring generations of journalists and broadcasters.
