The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Leather Science and Technology (NILEST), Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, on Tuesday joined the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh (SAN), and other key stakeholders at the opening ceremony of the Second International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation (STICONF 2026) in Abuja.

The conference, themed "Bridging the Tech Divide: Strengthening Research Institutions–Industry Linkages," is designed to serve as a strategic national and international platform for fostering collaboration among government institutions, research organisations, academia, industry leaders, development partners and innovators.

According to the organisers, the three-day conference will explore practical mechanisms for strengthening partnerships between research institutions and industry with the aim of accelerating technology commercialisation, promoting indigenous innovation and advancing Nigeria's transition to a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy.

Also present at the opening ceremony were the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, mni, directors-general of agencies under the ministry, and other dignitaries.

Representatives from academia, the military, paramilitary organisations and heads of research institutions, including the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) and the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA), also attended the event.

The conference is scheduled to run from June 16 to 18, 2026, at the TY Danjuma Foundation Conference Centre in the Central Business District, Abuja.
