Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of Bauchi has announced that the State Television Authority will soon be linked to a satellite, aiming to enhance the operational standards of the state's media stations.
The governor made this announcement yesterday during the reintroduced ministerial briefing organized by the State Ministry for Information and Communication at the Abubakar Umar Secretariat auditorium complex in Bauchi.
Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, the governor assured that his administration will continue to provide necessary support to the state-owned media organizations, Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Bauchi Television Authority (BATV), to ensure smooth operations for the benefit of the state's residents.
Senator Bala Mohammed emphasized his administration's commitment to achieving success across various sectors of development in the state.
"I am pleased to note that despite funding challenges faced by the state-owned media organizations, namely BATV and BRC, they have been able to promote and project government activities effectively," he stated.
"Considering the role of these media outfits in providing feedback between the government and the public, the government has directed that they be fully upgraded, digitized, and their studio/office complexes rehabilitated."
Governor Mohammed also announced the appointment of substantive Managing Directors for the two stations to ensure efficient and effective leadership. He noted that the government has increased funding, particularly for the BRC, to address issues such as diesel supply. He assured that BATV would soon be linked to a satellite, allowing it to compete with its contemporaries globally.
"While tirelessly working towards improving its two media organizations, the state government will also continue to support other media outfits in the state, enabling them to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively," he added.
The governor appealed to journalists to continue working with the government as partners in progress.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Comrade Usman Garba Danturaki, explained that the ministerial briefing aimed to review the performance of state ministries and address their challenges.
Hon. Usman Garba Dan Turaki praised Governor Bala Muhammad's efforts across various ministries, departments, and agencies, highlighting the state's progress.
The commissioner described Governor Bala Muhammad as media-friendly and commended him for prioritizing the media sector, which he called the bedrock of democracy.
The state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa'idu, also applauded the governor for his attention to the media sector since his administration's inception in 2029. He appealed to the state government to integrate casual staff working in state-owned media organizations into the government's payroll to address workforce gaps caused by retirements and deaths.
