Idris Alex Emeka, a student of Capital Government Day Secondary School in Yola, Adamawa State, has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping a mentally ill woman on three separate occasions.
The Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola, Adamawa State, ordered the remand of the defendant after he was arraigned for the offence of rape.
Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu, presiding over the court, remanded the defendant following his guilty plea to the offence, which contravenes Section 260 of the Penal Code Law.
According to the prosecution, the 20-year-old student was caught in the act with the mentally ill woman on June 26, 2024.
In the First Information Report presented to the court, the prosecution alleged that the defendant engaged in sexual intercourse with the mentally challenged woman on three separate occasions.
During the arraignment on behalf of the State Police Command, Inspector Galeon Nimrod informed the court that Habu Jibrilla reported the incident to Karewa Police Station. Jibrilla, a resident of State Lowcost, stated that he caught the defendant having sexual intercourse with the victim on the street at 6:40 am and subsequently arrested him.
