A group known as 'The Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance' has formally lodged complaints with the EFCC and ICPC in Kaduna against Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of the state.
Victor Duniya, Chairman of the group, revealed this during a press briefing held on Wednesday in Kaduna. He stated that the petitions target Mr. El-Rufai and several members of his administration.
Duniya clarified that their actions were prompted by the findings of the State House of Assembly Ad-hoc Committee on the sourcing and utilization of domestic loans from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.
The petitions, he elaborated, urge immediate investigations, arrests, and prosecutions of El-Rufai and his appointees implicated in alleged mismanagement, siphoning, and other illicit financial and administrative practices detailed in the report.
He emphasized that holding the former governor and his associates accountable would serve as a deterrent to elected and appointed officials considering similar actions.
The group also called upon the anti-graft agencies to act swiftly, underscoring the public's demand for accountability and prompt justice.
"Their actions have strained the state's finances and hindered the effective governance by successive administrations," Duniya alleged.
He further warned that undermining public trust in democracy posed significant dangers that required urgent attention.
Duniya expressed confidence in the anti-corruption agencies' capability and resolve to combat corruption effectively in Nigeria, praising the ad-hoc committee for its thorough and transparent work.
