The Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has solicited the support of the Jigawa State Government in urging the members of the National Assembly to back the Commission’s bills currently before the House.
The Federal Commissioner of the Commission, representing Jigawa State, Hajiya Hauwa Umar Aliyu Birniwa, made the plea when she visited the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Bala Ibrahim, in his office.
She said the bill titled “Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission” seeks joint funding with the Federal Government, State, and Local Government Areas for improved performance in the 2023 appropriation bill. The other bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Repeal and Reinforce the Mandate and Powers of the Commission,” aims to enhance the Commission's responsibility for monitoring revenue generation and disbursements on behalf of the Federal Government. Both bills are currently before the National Assembly for review.
Hauwa Umar Aliyu informed the SSG that the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission has created a state office in Dutse, and other states, to provide guidance to States and Local Governments on internal revenue generation, budgeting, public finance, and more.
The Federal Commissioner disclosed that the Commission has mandated her to work with the State Government and the Local Government Councils in the State on issues relating to state fiscal matters. She added that she will ensure that whatever is due to Jigawa State and the Local Government Councils is given to them.
She commended Governor Umar Namadi for the support he has been giving the Commission and assured the Commission’s continued support and cooperation with the Jigawa State Government to achieve the desired objectives.
Responding, the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Bala Ibrahim, thanked the Federal Commissioner for her visit and all the necessary support and cooperation.
The SSG congratulated Hauwa Umar Aliyu on her appointment as the Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission, representing Jigawa State.
Bala Ibrahim said the current administration under Governor Umar Namadi has introduced reforms on internally generated revenue aimed at improving the State’s IGR and creating economic activities throughout the State.
He assured that Jigawa State will work with the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission to improve its IGR.
During the visit, the Federal Commissioner was accompanied by the State Accountant General, Abdullahi S. G Shehu, Directors of the Ministry of Finance, and the State Coordinator of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission, Jigawa State office.
