A member of the Zamfara APC representing Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency, AbdulMalik Zubairu, has facilitated the wedding of 105 orphans who lost their parents to banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
Speaking at the wedding ceremony, Zubairu explained that the initiative was conceived in response to the severe security challenges that have devastated villages and towns in his constituency and throughout Zamfara.
"We must do everything within our capacity to address the humanitarian crisis affecting our communities. We are registering orphans and widows every day," he said.
"The emergency situation in the state requires the commitment of all and a comprehensive, multi-dimensional approach."
In his one year representing the constituency, Zubairu highlighted his achievements, including the sponsorship of 21 bills that have passed the second reading.
To address the socioeconomic challenges of the state and his constituency, he reported the provision of 210 hand-pump boreholes and scholarships awarded to 5,000 orphans and vulnerable children.
Additionally, Zubairu noted the construction and reconstruction of many hospitals and schools, as well as the empowerment of 10,000 women through various skill acquisition programs.
At the wedding event, 105 orphans were wed. Each bride received wedding materials such as a bed, a set of chairs, kitchen wares, and N100,000 as capital. The grooms were given N50,000 to support their businesses.
Also speaking at the event, Senator Sulaiman Kawo Sumaila urged scholars to thoroughly investigate issues before addressing the public.
"It is concerning how some scholars handle the issue of the gay marriage bill, contrary to the procedures of the National Assembly and the Nigerian Constitution," he said.
He assured that the National Assembly is not taking steps towards making such matters a reality in the country.
Senator Sumaila commended Zubairu for the laudable project and urged him to sustain the efforts.
