The Niger State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring regular promotions for local government staff throughout the state.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Isah Sidi Rijau, gave this assurance during a familiarization tour of the state's twenty-five local government areas.
While addressing the staff of Lapai and Gurara local government councils on Tuesday, as part of the Commission's ongoing tours, Hon. Sidi Rijau emphasized that under his leadership, the LGSC will continue to prioritize promoting local government workers to enhance effective service delivery.
According to Hon. Sidi Rijau, a substantial number of senior staff across the 25 local government areas in the state have already been promoted to Grade Level 17, marking a first in the Commission's history.
He noted that the days of stagnation in local government staff promotions are over, assuring that the current leadership of the Commission is committed to prioritizing the advancement of all cadres of local government workers.
“Since assuming office in January, the Commission has addressed the backlog of promotions for local government workers across the 25 local government areas in the state. We will continue this effort until the end of our administration, and we also aim to ensure the training of all cadres of workers across local government councils in Niger State," he stated.
Hon. Sidi Rijau attributed the success achieved under the current leadership of the Commission to the zeal, determination, and commitment of the commissioners, while requesting the support and cooperation of the staff to add more value to the Commission’s work.
He also explained that workers with National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas will reach the peak of their promotions at Grade Level 14, encouraging them to further their education to attain the highest level of directorship.
Additionally, Member Four of the Commission and head of training, Princess Rachel Yisa, disclosed that the Commission has designed a one-year pre-retirement training template. She explained that this training will provide retiring staff with the opportunity to engage in entrepreneurship, ensuring they can be self-reliant after retirement.
The Permanent Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission, Comrade Tanimu Ibrahim, informed workers under the State Universal Basic Education Board and the Primary Health Unit in the local government that a committee has been established to address their promotion issues.
