As Christians in Niger State join others worldwide to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has called on them to embody genuine love, mercy, and compassion, reflecting God’s love for humanity through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ.

In his Christmas message, Dr. Yohanna urged Christians to be exemplary in their lives and to share the good tidings of 2024 under the theme of love. He quoted, “A new command I give you: Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).

Dr. Yohanna stated, “Christmas serves as a poignant reminder of our shared aspirations for understanding and harmony amidst diversity.” He encouraged individuals to reflect on the past year and consider ways to foster positive change moving forward.

He emphasized that the Christmas season represents unity, peace, and compassion, which, while deeply rooted in Christian tradition, resonates globally.

Acknowledging the economic hardships many face, Dr. Yohanna encouraged Christians to extend love and generosity by sharing whatever they can with those in need. “Real love requires sacrifices and should be genuine, expressed not only in words but through actions,” he stated.

The Bishop also called for prayers for those in captivity, urging Christians to show solidarity through prayer and acts of kindness. He quoted Jesus, saying, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink…”

He lauded Governor Umaru Bago for initiatives like distributing Christmas rice to Christians and advised the government to ensure transparency in such programs to prevent abuse. “As we celebrate, let us pray for our leaders, especially Governor Bago, that God may guide him in fulfilling the ‘New Niger Agenda,’” Dr. Yohanna prayed.
