A group under the banner of Not Too Young to Run in Bauchi State has called on Engineer Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed to contest for the Bauchi South senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, warning that legal action will be taken if he declines.
The group’s chairman, Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Sharu, made the call during a press conference held at CFA Hotel in Bauchi on Sunday.
Sharu explained that the group believes Shamsudeen possesses the leadership qualities necessary to represent the senatorial district effectively. He praised Shamsudeen for his humility, strong leadership skills, and dedication to service, stressing that their appeal was based on his individual merits, rather than his relationship with the state governor, Bala Mohammed.
Engineer Ayuba Karofi, the group’s organizing secretary, emphasized the importance of having candidates with concrete plans for the youth, noting that the youth vote is pivotal in determining electoral outcomes.
“The group has threatened to take legal action if Shamsudeen fails to respond to our call,” Karofi said. “We also plan to take our campaign to all 20 local government areas in the state, seeking support from traditional and religious leaders, as well as the youth population.”
Hajiya Nafisa Gambo, the group’s women leader, highlighted Shamsudeen’s commitment to women, children, and pregnant women, pointing to his empowerment programs as evidence of his suitability for the Senate.
Aisha Sani Bala, a member of the group, urged Shamsudeen to accept the call, emphasizing the crucial role of youth participation in politics.
The group’s call reflects growing pressure for Shamsudeen to step into the political arena and lead the charge for change in Bauchi South.
