Governor Umara Babagana Zulum of Borno State has lauded the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, in recognition of his developmental strides in Kebbi State.
Governor Zulum made these remarks while speaking as the Guest of Honour at the launch of a book titled "Mr. Project", which honors Governor Idris’ achievements. The event was held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
"I must commend and laud the vision and tenacity of the author of this book. The governor deserves special recognition. I have toured the state and witnessed the numerous projects executed by Governor Nasir Idris," Zulum said.
He emphasized that the ultimate goal of politics is delivery and progress, adding, “The end result of politics is delivery. Therefore, I want to assure you that there will be no vacancy in the Kebbi State Government House by 2027.”
In a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Malam Ahmed Idris, Governor Zulum highlighted the symbiotic relationship between peace and development. He stressed that without peace, there can be no development, and vice versa. Zulum urged the people of Kebbi State to work together to sustain the prevailing peace in the state.
Governor Zulum further clarified that his attendance was not only in support of his fellow governor but also to celebrate the impressive developmental strides of Governor Idris.
The Chief Launcher, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, and former Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Atiku Bagudu, commended the event and was represented by Alhaji Muhammad Suleiman-Argungu, the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy Governor of Kebbi State. Bagudu announced a N50 million donation towards the book launch.
Senator Adamu Aliero, a former Governor of Kebbi State and Senator representing Kebbi Central under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), traced his long-standing relationship with Governor Idris to 2007. He recalled that during a challenging period with state workers, Governor Idris was the key figure who facilitated peace and harmony.
Aliero praised Governor Idris for executing meaningful developmental projects in Kebbi and encouraged him to expand his efforts to Zuru and Yauri Emirates. He advised the governor to continue building bridges across diverse groups in the state to ensure widespread support.
The Chairman of the Occasion, General Muhammadu Magoro, praised the 19 Northern Governors for their unified stance on the controversial Tax Reform Bill. He urged them to involve federal lawmakers in the discussion to reach a well-informed decision. Magoro also reminded the Northern Governors not to repeat past mistakes, such as the error made during the “onshore and offshore” debate that resulted in the 13 percent derivation formula.
“I see no reason why this Bill is being rushed,” Magoro stated. “If it is truly beneficial for the country, why the urgency? Why the need for haste in its passage?”
In their separate addresses, the Book Reviewer, Prof. Muhammad Lawal-Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Rayhan University, Birnin Kebbi, and Guest Speaker, Prof. Bello Bada of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (UDUS), both commended the accomplishments of Governor Idris.
They noted that the book "Mr. Project" embodies the developmental work of Governor Idris and highlighted that his achievements were not just about executing projects, but also about his humility, harmony, and generosity.
