The Funtua Inland Dry Port Station has officially commenced operations, marking a significant milestone in the region’s economic development. The station received its first container of goods and services imported from China by sea, which arrived safely and in compliance with the law.
The launch event, held on Monday, was led by Alhaji Abba Aji Idris, Head of the National Commission for the Prevention of Fraud in Katsina State. In his remarks, Alhaji Abba Aji emphasized that the station will play a pivotal role in sustaining the economic growth and development of the state.
He urged importers and those interested in importing goods and services to utilize the facility, assuring them of seamless operations as long as due process is followed.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the station, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Dodo, expressed confidence that the Funtua Inland Dry Port Station will soon compete with other dry port stations in driving the socioeconomic growth of the state.
Alhaji Ahmed Dodo further explained that the station has adopted advanced techniques and principles to ensure its smooth and uninterrupted operations. He also revealed plans to expand the station’s reach, with goods soon to be transported to neighboring countries such as Chad, Niger, and the Benin Republic.
“This station is a significant opportunity for economic development, but more importantly, it will create jobs for many young people, even those without formal education,” Alhaji Ahmed Dodo added.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including officials from the Anti-Drug Trafficking Agency, Alhaji Tijjani Dan Dutse, a representative of Alhaji Umar Mutallab (one of the founders of the port), and Hajiya Halimatu Usman, representing the Head of the Ports Authority.
