A powerful explosion has rocked a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident, which occurred late Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road construction site, sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky, as raging flames spread rapidly through the mangrove.
A video circulating on Tuesday morning captured the intensity of the inferno, though the cause of the explosion remains unknown. It is yet to be confirmed whether the incident is linked to recent threats by militants to target oil installations amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
The Trans Niger Pipeline is a critical federal transport line responsible for supplying gas to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.
