The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has distanced himself from his Personal Assistant, Andrew Torhile Uchi, who is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering amounting to over ₦10 billion.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen, clarified that the office had no involvement in the alleged financial misconduct.

“The attention of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has been drawn to the ongoing investigation by the EFCC involving Hon. Andrew Torhile Uchi, Personal Assistant to the SGF, over allegations of corruption, bribery, and money laundering," the statement read.

"It is imperative to categorically state that the leadership of this office is not in any way connected to the alleged misconduct. The OSGF remains committed to transparency, accountability, and integrity in all its dealings.

“We recognize the efforts of the EFCC in ensuring that those found culpable are brought to justice. However, we urge the public to refrain from speculation, as investigations are still ongoing. We appreciate the public’s understanding and support on this matter,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that Senator Akume has been abroad for over two weeks receiving medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
