OPINION: Time For A Shared Vision And Real Action In Sabon Gari Local Government, By Aminu Siddique

Why do many of us hold on to the belief that prosperity and progress will simply happen without deliberate planning? Deep down, we all know that meaningful growth does not happen by chance. It requires clear purpose, proper planning, and deliberate action. Without these, just like any other thing worth doing, our rate of progress will remain slow, and our people will continue to struggle.

Why We Struggle

We face countless challenges in Sabongari: overburdened healthcare centres that cannot care for everyone, schools that are too weak to truly empower our children for today’s fast-paced environment, and job opportunities that vanish before they even appear. Meanwhile, businesses get little or no support, and many of our youths lose hope. We’ve come to rely on quick fixes like the empowerment programs or palliatives that ease the pain temporarily, politically motivated projects that are focused more on winning support and votes rather than creating a better future.

The truth is, these measures aren’t enough and will never be enough. We need a broader vision that connects everything, from health to education to agriculture to jobs and so on, so we can move forward together and stronger.

What Could Be and What We Need

In other places, we see strong infrastructure that stands the test of time, healthcare systems that truly serve, schools that nurture, and opportunities for businesses to thrive. There’s no reason Sabongari can’t have the same.

It isn’t because we lack the capital, which I disagree with; it’s because we don’t have a unifying plan that brings everyone to the table to effectively mobilise and create the needed resources. We should move beyond scattered projects and handouts toward a Community-Driven Master Plan that reflects our shared aspirations.

When we unite around a solid and coherent strategy, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish.

A Better Path Forward

To reclaim our potential, we must come together and create a long-term framework for real development. A Master Plan that includes the following:

1. A Clear Vision: A picture of how we want Sabongari to look decades from now, not just before the next election.

2. Focused Priorities: Systems that deliver quality healthcare, education that uplifts everyone, unwavering security, reliable infrastructure, and genuine local economic growth.

3. Shared Responsibilities: Clearly defined roles for residents, leaders, and businesses so that everyone knows how to contribute.

4. Effective Monitoring and Evaluation Framework: Regular progress checks, early warnings when something isn’t working, and a commitment to keeping promises.

Real development means laying a foundation that stands firm for generations.

A Call to All of Us

Let’s discuss this openly in our homes, social gatherings, places of worship, joints and majalisas. Let’s encourage our leaders to sit at the table and chart out a truly transformative plan. If we keep hoping luck will fix things, we risk passing the same hardships and poverty to our children. They will struggle with the same weak healthcare, poor schools, and scarce opportunities. And their children may do the same, forever trapped in the cycle we failed to break. Doing nothing is not just standing still; it’s effectively allowing poverty to shape our destiny.

The Unspoken Truth: Personal Benefit vs. Collective Good

It’s important to be honest about another reality. Many of us follow political figures because we hope that once they gain power, we will benefit personally. And when that doesn’t happen, we get frustrated and start causing problems. Meanwhile, no one is pushing hard for the kind of plan that focuses on the well-being of every person in Sabongari. This mindset only holds us back from the progress we deserve. I’m not saying this to judge anyone. This is simply the frustration of a concerned citizen who loves Sabongari and knows we can do better. My aim is to simply spark a conversation that leads to real, lasting change.

Where Do We Go from Here?

Sabongari is worth fighting for. We have people of talent, energy, and heart, waiting for the right environment to succeed. But real transformation doesn’t happen on its own. That’s why, in the coming weeks, I’ll share practical steps, sector by sector, touching healthcare, education, jobs, agriculture and more.

Together, we’ll build this plan, not just dream it. It takes all of us, united in clear purpose, to set the direction for our local government’s next chapter. Let’s rise together beyond individual gains, beyond short-sighted promises, and beyond mere wishful thinking.

Let’s make Sabongari a place where our children can thrive, not just survive.

Sincerely,
Aminu Siddique from Hanwa Ward.
