In a move aimed at promoting inclusive education and empowering vulnerable groups, the Executive Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Jamilu Albani, has awarded ₦50,000 scholarships to selected students with disabilities studying in various institutions across the country.
The scholarship presentation ceremony, which took place in Samaru, Zaria, drew commendation from stakeholders and members of the public who praised the chairman’s commitment to supporting students with special needs.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Albani emphasised that the initiative is part of his administration’s broader vision to ensure equal access to quality education for all, regardless of physical or mental challenges.
“This scholarship is more than just financial support—it’s a statement of our unfluctuating commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and social development. We believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive academically,” the chairman stated.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, noting that the financial relief would significantly ease their educational burdens and allow them to focus on their studies.
In addition to the scholarship program, Hon. Albani reiterated his administration’s ongoing efforts to promote the welfare of persons with disabilities, including initiatives geared toward recruiting teachers with disabilities and fostering a more inclusive educational environment within the local government area.
The chairman’s gesture has been widely seen as a positive step toward community development and social equity, with many urging other leaders to emulate his example.
