The Niger State Government, through its agricultural initiative Niger Foods, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arab Contractors for the development of 250,000 hectares of land dedicated to crop production, livestock farming, food processing factories, and abattoirs.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Arab Contractors in Cairo, Egypt. The Executive Chairman of Niger Foods, Mr. Sammy Adigun, signed on behalf of the Niger Food Security and Logistics Company, while the Managing Director of Arab Contractors, Engr. Mohammed Eledaros, signed on behalf of his organization.
Under the agreement, Arab Contractors will begin by developing an initial 25,000 hectares in the first phase of a five-year development plan. Niger Foods will provide land suitable for agricultural activities, while Arab Contractors will lead the land development process and offer technical expertise where needed.
The initiative is projected to enable the production of 2 million tons of food annually, generate 2 million direct and indirect jobs, and attract an estimated $1.5 billion in investments over the five-year period.
To finance the ambitious project, both parties have agreed to jointly raise capital through financial institutions, investors, and other funding sources.
Present at the signing were Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago; Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Usman Gbatamangi; and Chairman of the New Niger Development Project, Mustapha Bida.
The Arab Contractors team was led by its Chairman, Ahmed Mostafa El-Assar, and included the Finance Director for Africa, Emad Ebied; Head of Business Development, Strategic Studies and Marketing Development, Lubna Shafla; and Head of Public Relations, Menna Yasser.
The MoU marks a significant milestone in Niger State’s commitment to agricultural transformation and food security, aligning with Governor Bago’s New Niger Agenda.
