A one-storey building under construction has collapsed on Agarawu Street, near the Central Mosque by Idumota Bus Stop on Lagos Island, triggering a swift response from emergency services.
Operatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, along with other relevant agencies, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
In a post on its official X handle, NEMA confirmed that officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) have taken charge of the site to mitigate further risks.
The statement reads:
"A one-storey building under construction collapsed at Agarawu Street, off Aroloya, near Central Mosque, Idumota Bus Stop, Lagos State. The incident prompted an immediate response from the NEMA Lagos Operations Office alongside other relevant stakeholders.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the exact cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time. Following the assessment, officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency have taken control of the site and ordered a manual demolition of the remaining structure."
