The Al-Furqan Charity Foundation has completed and handed over a newly built Friday mosque in Minna, the capital of Niger State, to the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), marking a significant milestone in the foundation’s decades-long service to Islam in Nigeria.

According to a statement by the Foundation’s Director-General of Education and Outreach, Sheikh Muhammad Ashir Abubakar, the mosque is the first of its kind in the city and represents part of Al-Furqan’s commitment to Islamic development and humanitarian outreach. He noted that the Foundation, which has operated for over 30 years, has built numerous Friday mosques and consistently supported vulnerable communities, especially during Ramadan.

“This large Friday mosque in Minna is particularly significant,” Sheikh Abubakar stated. “While we have built and led mosques in many areas, this project was made possible after the Niger State Government provided the land, and JIBWIS sought our support to construct it. We responded to that call in the interest of Islam and humanity.”

The mosque, located opposite the Three-Arms Zone complex in the Maitumbi area of Chanchaga Local Government Area, reportedly cost over N200 million to complete.

Speaking during the handover, the Niger State JIBWIS Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Nuhu, also known as Mayanan Minna, commended Al-Furqan Foundation for its outstanding contribution to Islamic development. He announced the appointment of two imams for the mosque: Sheikh Aliyu Muhammad Sani Adarawa as Chief Imam and Malam Abubakar Umar as his deputy, with a third to be named later.

He further revealed that JIBWIS plans to establish a college of management studies within the mosque premises, focusing on professional tools like auditing and mathematics to help generate sustainable income for religious activities.

The national chairman of JIBWIS, Sheikh Bala Lau, who led a delegation to the event, praised the Foundation for completing the mosque on schedule. He urged mosque leaders to develop the facility into a full-fledged religious center that extends beyond Friday prayers and becomes a hub for spreading Islamic knowledge.

In his Friday sermon, Sheikh Imam Aminu Ahmad Al-Furqan emphasised the spiritual importance of the first ten days of Zul-Hijjah, particularly the Day of Arafah. He called on wealthy individuals to support the needy during the Eid al-Adha festivities, stressing the growing economic hardship affecting many families.

The Imam also prayed for lasting peace in Nigeria, especially in regions afflicted by insurgency and banditry. He urged Nigerians to fear God, shun immoral acts, and show love and compassion to one another.

This mosque adds to Al-Furqan Foundation’s growing list of religious infrastructure, including the Friday mosque in Paiko town, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, which has served as a previous base for the Foundation’s outreach activities.
