The District Head of Sabon Gari, Alhaji Ahmed Bashari Aminu (Dan Barhin Zazzau), has turbaned Hon. St. Heart Chidozie Ogu as Barwan Sabon Garin Zaria and appointed him as a permanent member of the Sabon Gari District Council.

Speaking shortly after the turbaning ceremony, Alhaji Bashari stated that the title was conferred following the approval of His Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli. He said the honour was in recognition of Hon. Chidozie’s longstanding humanitarian efforts, unwavering support, commitment, and love for the community.

He also highlighted Chidozie’s contributions to community security and entrepreneurship development as key reasons for the honour.

Hon. St. Heart Chidozie becomes the first Igbo man to be conferred with the traditional title of Barwan Sabon Garin Zaria and to serve as a permanent council member under the District Head of Sabon Gari.

Reacting to the honour, his brother, Hon. Matthew Igbokwe, the current Vice Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area in Imo State, expressed deep gratitude to the Emir of Zazzau for honouring his brother. He emphasized that the gesture would undoubtedly strengthen social, economic, and political ties between the people of Onicha Nweorie in Imo State and the Zazzau Emirate in Kaduna State, as well as Nigeria at large.

Hon. Igbokwe also appreciated the Emirate Council for recognizing and honouring their son with such a prestigious traditional title.

In his remarks, His Royal Highness, Eze Jude Alozie (KSJ), the Eze of Onicha Nweorie, commended Hon. Chidozie’s contributions and achievements, stating that they could not be overemphasized. He expressed optimism that more sons of the community would receive similar recognition in the future.

In his acceptance speech, the newly turbaned Barwan Sabon Gari, Hon. St. Heart Chidozie Ogu, expressed profound gratitude to His Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, for approving the title, and to the District Head of Sabon Gari for recommending him. He pledged total loyalty and commitment to the responsibilities bestowed upon him.

He also used the occasion to thank traditional rulers, politicians, the Igbo community, and well-wishers for their unwavering support in making the turbaning ceremony a success.
