The Management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure and withdrawal of approval for the Al-Ansar Indabo female students' hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano metropolis.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President of Campus Life, who noted that the action is part of the university’s efforts to ensure safe, secure, and decent accommodation for its students, and to uphold its zero-tolerance policy on immoral conduct.
“I am directed by the Management to inform our esteemed parents and students that the university has withdrawn its approval for the AL-ANSAR INDABO FEMALE STUDENTS HOSTELS located at UDB Road and Hotoro,” the statement read.
According to Dr. Garba, the decision followed persistent non-compliance with the university’s regulations governing private hostels.
“The non-compliance has led to a series of issues including reports of immoral activities, inadequate water and electricity supply, student violence, unauthorized movements at odd hours, and the sharing of hostel facilities with unknown individuals—all of which pose a serious threat to student welfare,” he explained.
Affected students have been directed to vacate the hostels immediately after the completion of the fall semester examinations and to cease all association with the hostels thereafter. The university management also stated that it is working with relevant security agencies to ensure full enforcement of the directive.
Parents and students have been advised to contact the university’s Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, for information on approved, safe, and secure accommodations. Inquiries can also be directed to the email: vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng.
The university emphasized that it will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from non-compliance with the directive.
