The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against the use of hard drugs and unauthorised journeys without official permission from the NYSC, emphasising the need for discipline and responsibility during their service year.

Nafiu issued the warning during his visit to the 2025 Batch 'A' Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kusala-Dam, Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State.

Addressing the Corps Members, he emphasised that drug abuse and the use of dangerous stimulants could destroy promising futures, urging them to remain focused and determined to build meaningful and successful lives for themselves.

In a statement on Facebook, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar, informed the Director General that a total of 1,987 Corps Members, with 1,110 being females and 877 males, are currently in camp.

The statement reads: "The Director General of National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has warned Corps Members to avoid the consumption of hard drugs and other forms of dangerous stimulants.

"He gave the warning today in his address to the 2025 Batch 'A' Stream One Corps Members at NYSC Kano State Orientation Camp in Kusala-Dam, Karaye Local Government Area of the State. He said anything done under the influence of hard drugs always leads to regret and advised that instead, they should be passionate about building successful future lives for themselves.

"Speaking further, General Nafiu implored the Corps Members not to embark on any journey without getting approval from the NYSC. He also warned against night journeys, which can endanger their lives.

"The Director General encouraged them to contribute their quota to national development and integration by making positive impacts through their actions.

"In her Orientation Camp situation report to General Nafiu, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Abdulkarim Abubakar said 1,110 females and 887 males, totalling 1,987 Corps Members, were in Camp as good representatives of the 36 States of the Federation, including the FCT.
