The Special Adviser to the President on Print Media, Malam Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, has outlined three key reasons behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Katsina State.
In an exclusive interview with Katsina Times during his visit to the newspaper’s office on Sunday, Abdulaziz clarified that the visit was far more than a courtesy call. According to him, the trip was driven by concerns over security, ongoing developmental projects, and long-standing political ties between the President and the people of Katsina.
“First and foremost, security was a major consideration. Katsina is one of the states most affected by armed banditry, and the federal government is doing everything within its power to address the situation. President Tinubu’s direct engagement with security officials during the visit highlights his administration’s commitment to restoring peace in the North,” he stated.
He added that the second reason for the visit was to inspect and reinforce federal development efforts in the state. “The Tinubu administration has initiated several major projects in Katsina, including the construction of three strategic roads linking the state to neighboring regions. This clearly demonstrates that Katsina is a priority in the federal government’s development agenda.”
The third reason, Abdulaziz explained, is rooted in deep political connections. “Katsina holds significant political importance for the President due to his strong personal and political ties with influential figures from the state—including the current governor. The President also honoured the governor’s invitation to attend his daughter’s wedding, where he personally gave his blessings to the couple.”
Abdulaziz further noted that President Tinubu’s bond with Katsina dates back to the beginning of his political career. “Though Tinubu is from Lagos, his early political tutelage came under the late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, with whom he served in the Social Democratic Party (SDP). That relationship laid a foundation that has continued to flourish to this day.”
He emphasised that this enduring connection has been reflected in the President’s appointments of Katsina indigenes to several key positions in his administration.
“Several Katsina natives currently serve in prominent positions, including the Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), along with other top officials in federal agencies, also hail from the state. These appointments reflect the high regard President Tinubu holds for Katsina and its people.”
In closing, Abdulaziz expressed gratitude to the people of Katsina for the warm reception given to the President and his entourage.
“We were truly honoured by the hospitality and respect shown by the people of Katsina. The state holds a place of deep significance in this administration. We pray for continued friendship and unity between President Tinubu and the people of Katsina,” he said.
