The Zaria Local Government Council has denied claims circulating on social media that land and shops in the Kofar Doka area were gifted to the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, describing the allegations as politically motivated and misleading.
In a press statement signed by Ishaq Galadima, Special Adviser and Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government, the Council clarified that the land in question was part of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between the local government and Rich-view Global Nigeria Limited, signed in August 2024—prior to the assumption of office by the current Chairman, Engineer Jamil Ahmad Muhammad.
“The land was not gifted to anyone,” the statement emphasized. “The agreement does not involve the free allocation of land to any individuals, as alleged.”
The statement also addressed a Facebook post by a user identified as “Dan Hajia Mai Naira,” who claimed in Hausa that the land and shops at Kofar Doka were taken from locals and handed to the Speaker’s wife to build a shopping plaza. The Council said this post, alongside another related to an ICT facility in Amaru, triggered a police investigation following a formal complaint.
One suspect, reportedly linked to both posts, was arrested after allegedly ignoring police invitations. He was subsequently arraigned before a magistrate court on Monday, July 6, 2025. According to the Council, the original poster remains at large.
“The arrest process was entirely legal, and both the complainant and the police adhered to due process without resorting to any brutal or unlawful means,” Galadima noted.
The Council also warned against what it described as the politicization of the matter and attempts to drag the names of public officials, including the Speaker and the Executive Chairman, into unfounded allegations.
“We call upon those engaged in propaganda to consult the law, as the nominal complainant has done,” the statement continued. “Anyone interested in the case is advised to approach the court, as the matter is now sub judice.”
The Council further urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and to seek accurate information through proper legal and administrative channels.
