Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called on residents of the state to embrace religious tolerance and work together in the spirit of love and mutual respect to foster growth and development.
Governor Bago, popularly referred to as the "Farmer Governor," made this call during the 114th Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the First Baptist Church, Minna, where he was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Mrs. Afiniki Eunice Dauda.
He emphasized that there is no limit to the progress a society can achieve when religious tolerance is embraced by all.
The governor congratulated the leadership and congregation of the church on its anniversary, describing it as a "testament to God’s grace" and a "beacon of light and hope to many."
He urged them to strengthen interfaith harmony through love, honesty, and service to humanity, while also encouraging Christians in the state to continue supporting his administration, assuring them of inclusive governance.
Also speaking at the event, the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago—represented by the Kauran Minna, Mr. Peterson Kaura—commended Christians in his domain for consistently demonstrating good character and peaceful coexistence, urging them to sustain the attitude.
In his remarks, Rev. Dr. Odadeyi, presiding pastor of the First Baptist Church Minna, along with a representative of the President, Niger/Kebbi Baptist Conference, applauded Governor Bago for his open and supportive posture toward Christians in the state, encouraging him to continue on that path.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Jonathan Wasa; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Mr. Jonathan Vatsa; and the Coordinator of Christian Affairs, Mr. Lawrence Mohammed Isa, all praised the governor’s developmental strides across sectors and urged Christians to continue supporting his administration.
During the event, the Niger State Chapter of the Nigerian Christian Youths in Politics endorsed Governor Bago for a second term in office, citing his inclusive leadership style.
Governor Bago was also presented with an Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of his commitment to the New Niger Agenda and his support for the Christian community in the state.
In addition, the Emir of Minna received an Outstanding Fatherly Award for his exemplary fatherly role in fostering peace and unity in the society.
