The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday coordinated a multi-agency response to a fire outbreak at the popular Singa Market in Kano State.
The fire, which was reported at about 4:30 p.m., engulfed sections of the busy market, with thick smoke and intense flames posing serious threats to lives, goods and adjoining structures.

In a statement dated February 14, 2026, NEMA said its Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, promptly activated the agency’s Kano Operations Office upon receiving reports of the incident. A response team was immediately deployed to the scene to support ongoing firefighting efforts and assess the situation.

Agencies involved in the operation include the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Fire Service, Aspira Nigeria Limited Fire Unit, Dangote Group Fire Unit, Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

According to the agency, sustained firefighting efforts have significantly reduced the intensity of the blaze, with the situation gradually coming under control.

However, emergency responders remained at the scene as of the time of filing this report to ensure full containment of the fire and prevent further spread.

The extent of damage and possible casualties had yet to be officially confirmed.
