The Niger State Government has commenced the selection process for its overseas scholarship program, an initiative aimed at providing exceptional students with opportunities for higher education abroad.
The scholarship program, introduced by Governor Umaru Bago, seeks to sponsor 1,000 eligible students from public secondary schools to study Medicine, Engineering, ICT, and Agriculture-related courses in Canada, China, India, and Brazil.
As part of the selection process, qualifying examinations have already been conducted for outstanding students who excelled in their Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams. The exams covered English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Civic Education to ensure that only the most deserving candidates are selected.
The State Government has reaffirmed that the selection process will be strictly merit-based, in line with Governor Umaru Bago’s vision of providing equal opportunities for brilliant students, regardless of their family background.
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Asabe Hadiza Mohammed, praised Governor Bago for creating opportunities for young scholars to gain world-class education and contribute to the growth and development of Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.
Similarly, the Director-General of School and Educational Reforms, Maimuna Mohammed, emphasized that the examination template aligns with national standards, ensuring that the best students are selected for the program.
The scholarship examination was conducted across the state, and the final list of selected candidates will be announced in due course.
