The Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South, Architect Lola Ashiru, has commended the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) for its impactful interventions across various sectors.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin after an oversight visit to assess the commission’s projects and programs, Senator Ashiru, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, stated that the commission’s activities have justified its establishment.
He acknowledged that N-HYPPADEC's interventions extend beyond youth empowerment, positively impacting agriculture, health, education, and security, thereby significantly improving the lives of communities within its operational areas.
Senator Ashiru urged the commission’s management to sustain its efforts and ensure that ongoing projects are effectively monitored for long-term benefits. He emphasized the need for continuity and accountability to maintain the progress achieved so far.
The Kwara State Coordinator of N-HYPPADEC, Hajiya Hajara Ndaman Alhassan, highlighted some of the commission’s contributions, revealing that:
Over 600 youths have been trained in 32 different trades and provided with startup kits.
The commission has distributed fertilizers, power tillers, and life jackets to support farmers and local communities.
N-HYPPADEC has constructed classrooms and a housing estate to resettle flood victims.
The commission’s interventions continue to play a crucial role in enhancing socio-economic development and improving the well-being of people in hydroelectric power-producing areas.
