Muslims have been urged to demonstrate compassion and kindness toward one another without discrimination, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, a period when the rewards for good deeds are multiplied.

The appeal was made by Islamic scholar and President of the African Association of Astronomers, Sheikh Muhajjadina Sani Kano, during an interview with journalists at his office in Abuja.

Sheikh Muhajjadina described Ramadan as a sacred month that emphasises charity, generosity, and mutual support within society. He stressed that the call to give is not limited to the wealthy, noting that regardless of one’s financial situation, there are always others in greater need. He therefore encouraged everyone to extend a helping hand to those less privileged.

He acknowledged the economic hardships currently facing many families, particularly with regard to food and other basic necessities. In light of this, he urged well-to-do individuals to set aside a portion of their resources to assist the needy in their communities.

“Ramadan is a time when people—men and women, young and old, rich and poor—compete in acts of righteousness. One does not need vast wealth before offering support; it is from whatever Allah has provided that one should give to those in need,” he said.

The cleric also called on citizens to cooperate with security agencies in efforts to rid society of criminal elements. He emphasised the importance of providing timely and useful information that could help prevent threats to peace and stability.

Furthermore, he urged governments at all levels to fulfil their responsibilities to the people they serve.

In conclusion, Sheikh Muhajjadina prayed for Allah to accept the prayers and acts of worship of the faithful and to grant them the blessings and spiritual rewards associated with the holy month of Ramadan.
